Question:
Should I use CD replication or CD duplication?

My band and I just finished recording our demo and we were looking into custom CDs, but I don't know whether to use Duplication or Replication. Also, can you give me a recommendation for a good website for custom CDs?

The question of whether to use duplication or replication mainly depends on the quantity that you need.

The setup for replication is more involved but the unit cost is cheaper when you're producing thousands. With the duplication the reverse is true.

You should be able to get the same quality of print with duplication (ie screen or litho rather than inkjet) as long as your producing 100s rather than 10s. If you're looking at producing 1000s then replication is the way to go. Alpha Duplication (link below) are very good & offer both and will be able to advise as to what is best for you.

Good luck with it!

Converted? What format are they in right now? Or maybe you're going to record digitally, and so you're asking this question first. I think .wav and .aiff are both ok - it's just that .wav is Microsoft and .aiff is Apple technology. Making sure the CD is playable in any music player is handled by the presser, not you. You supply the master files (in .wav for example), then they convert and transfer and replicate. UNLESS you're saying you need to have a finished product and all they're going to do is duplicate it. Then you should make the highest quality WAV files you can, and let your computer/converter convert to an Audio CD which will convert those WAV files to (i think) .cda format. Because you can't just stick a CD with burned WAV files on it into a CD player in a stereo.

If someone on here can't answer your question from personal experience, then you can just call the company that's going to replicate your CDs :)

Oh, and best of luck!! Making your own record must be awesome!

A big factor is deciding weather to duplicate or replicate your CD is quantity. If you want under 300 units we recommend duplication as it is more cost effective. If you want over 300 units replication is typically cheaper per unit. Replication takes 7-10 business days, while duplication can be turned around same day. Printing on replication tends to be better quality. If there is anything we can do to help you out, just let us know!

CD/DVD Duplication in it is purest definition skill to reproduction discs. easily, there are 2 different procedures to make copies of a disc, Replication and Duplication. Replication - the approach of "stamping" your documents into an injection molded disc. those discs are merely like the type you get on the song or video shop and performance a silver look to them. The silver look is as a results of the aluminum it is used to copy the laser it is used once you play your disc. Duplication - using a disc recorder(s) to "burn" your documents right into a pre-man made write-once discs. those discs, called Recordables (CDR or DVDR), are sparkling talk and fee between $.20 and $.seventy 5 relying on parts and high quality. high quality - there are some those which will allow you to recognize now to not reproduction audio or video yet merely reflect. Others say that there is not any enormous difference in any respect. They both can't be suitable.... can they? nicely, there are transformations and typically they do have an impact. the actuality has more suitable to do with the play back kit than the generating procedure. Older "set suitable" DVD gamers (hooked for your television) often times have issues playing duplicated discs yet hardly have problems with replicated discs (hardly would not recommend not in any respect). different human beings trust that a replicated audio disc is more suitable constructive than a duplicated disc. This time i do not imagine there's a lot of a large difference yet they could look a touch different. undergo in ideas, this isn't an analog tape, digital song is digital song no mater how its man made. precis - in case you want less than 5,000 discs and also you want them in a hurry, reproduction! more suitable numbers could more suitable constructive dealt with with replication if the many times longer turn cases will enable it. it will be wonderful to the contact a organization which could cope with both option for you. which could actually help insure that you get impartial information along with your undertaking.

The choice mainly depends on volume. For 1000 or less you should duplicate, for over 1000 you should replicate.
