Texting and calling on an iPod Touch?

Question

Yeah so I got an iPod touch for christmas (newest gen, 8Gb model). I know there are some phone and texting apps that can be downloaded (maybe by jailbreaking)

Just wondering, do these apps let you text or call ANY phone? Do you get your own phone number or whatever, or can you just MAKE calls, not recieve? Also, any apps that let you send picture messages to other cellphones? Thanks

You can call any number. You get to pick your very own number and u can call and receive calls and texts! The app you need is textfree with voice. You can call text and send pic messages.

Hey, you can't get a phone on your itouch but you can get texting. Believe me, there is no app, even with jailbreaking, that lets you call people. You can text any phone, you just have to let your friends know your new number. Some of the texting apps are even free which is really nice You can't get or send picture messages, but you can send and recieve regular texts. Also, I don't recommend jailbreaking your itouch. The itouch always ends up breaking and that's at least 200 dollars down the drain. Good Luck!

Ya, actually i just got the same thing too. So what i got was the textfree app (found it in the app store under top free apps) and what it does is you can only call on wi-fi but u can call anyone and the signals pretty good. u can also txt (also needs wi-fi) and it works too. U start out with 10 min.s but u can buy some more and there not to bad (1.99 for 100 min.s) also u dont need to pay for stuff every month like a phone so..... ya its not too bad :) and u get to chose ur number too out of wats left. U can send pic messages to if the phone ur txting can accept them.

If you download Skype (free I think) you can call people on there Skype, and talk, but it's not a phone number.



There are texting apps, that give you your own number and a certain amount of texts you can send a day (you can buy more)

the superb texting app top now could be "pinger" ot supplies u ur own variety and it seems super yet whilst ur going to get a itouch for christmas i could hav waited simply by fact the itouch 5 is going to come again out lik a month later

From what I know it is impossible to make calls or texts thru any iPod due to the fact it doesn't have a network or tranmitter
