i got a new itunes, and the songs on my ipod wont transfer to the library or music folder, please help?

I got a new computer and it has a new itunes i updates the itunes and when i plug in my ipod and click on the thumbnail of the ipod on the left side, my songs in the music folder are faded and you cannot click them and they dont play, when i click transfer my purchases nothig happens, how can i get my songs from my ipod to the itunes library or music folder?
