ipod touch 4th generation problems?

i got my ipod touch 4 last christmas, and never had any problems until now. my mail app is messed up.
i went to check my emails after school and when i clicked the mail app it loaded 3 emails . then later i went to check my emails again, i opened the mail app and then the screen went black for about 2 seconds and led me back to the home screen.

i tired resetting, turning my ipod off, closing all the apps on the multitasking bar, removing email accounts etc, and it still doesn't work.

help please?

1. Connect to iTunes via USB cable



2. Right-Click your ipod touch in the deivces menu on the left



3. Select Back-Up option from menu



4. Revert ipod touch to previous software version



5. Allow old software version to be installed on the ipod touch



6. Once completed, select the update option to install the latest software version



7. Once the latest software version is finished installing on the ipod, right-click the restore button on the device's main info page



8. Select "restore from backup"



9. Let restore finish and try the Mail app again.
