Hi,
I am looking for Christmas present for myself.
I would love to get stereo system, like Sonos, but without the hefty price tag, something ok sounding where I could plug in my external hard drive and would be nice to get internet radio as well.....and also it would have color screen or remote that would like any mp3 player where I could browse that HDD on it.
Please let me know if there is something like that out there.
Thank you

Hi,

While Sonos makes a great product, many consumers struggle with the price tag associated with the name. If you're looking for something equally robust and features above and beyond those of Sonos, sans the sticker-shock, then you might want to look at VOCO.

VOCO, per their website, is the world's first voice-controlled wireless multi-room music system. It uses an App for smartphones and tablets which allows the user to request unlimited content and stream it wirelessly throughout the home. I can stream from my Android phone, PC, Mac, iTunes, 50,000 free internet radio stations from TuneIn radio, iPod or MP3 player, or USB drive.

VOCO's V-Zone hardware receives the stream and plays audio out of equipment you already own, such as a home theater, powered speakers, or TV. Up to ten V-Zones can be added and they can be controlled individually or as a group, all using the power of your voice.

The VOCO V-Zone starts at just $249 and there are no additional components required other than the free App. There is also an all-in-one unit, I believe called the V-Spot, which includes five drivers and three amps and is due to be released in January. I saw a demo of this unit at a trade show and it sounds incredible!

In addition to being the first to introduce voice-controlled audio, VOCO plans to release voice-enabled wireless video streaming next year. I can't wait!

Hi,

There are a number of other solutions but none as elegant as Sonos. Examples: You can use a PC/MAC and have cables running out of it to an amplification system or you can go with a lesser interface and a network limited device such as the Squeezebox by Logitech but then you are limited by it's performance. What Sonos does so elegantly is their software is easy and pleasurable to operate, their network is Sonos.net and is their just for your music, their system handles latency issues so they do not affect your multi-room music choices, and you get free upgrades along with great performance and sound quality.

I am biased - I use Sonos at home and work.

Good luck in your choice!

Bose also just released their Sonos-like system, the Soundtouch series. Better sound quality than sonos but so far still a bit limited. No spotify support yet for example... However they are working on it!

in case you do in comparison to Phil Collins songs possibly you mustn't pay attention to good 40 radio. What stations do they play your songs on? once you have diverse hits, albums, stay overall performance excursions with a rock team or as a solo artist, then you incredibly can come back to Y/A & communicate approximately your achievement yet interior the mean time, substitute the station & stop bellyaching over minor BS
