You can either take an old-school batter-powered Walkman CD player - or get yourself a good back-up battery for your current mp3 player. There is NO REASON to over pay for a Power Monkey, etc. - I got a 5400 mA battery off eBay for $14, and I can recharge my iPhone, mp3 player, Kindle, etc. a few times. If you are taking a vehicle, then you can get an adapter plug ( if the vehicle is too old to have USB sockets) and charge your device from the car batter - while the car is running. So look around at cheap electronic sources - eBay if you have time to get something shipped - and see how many mA (milliAmps) you can get for the price. I just took my mp3 player around Europe for 2 weeks, since I did not want to run down my phone, or use FILL my phone with music (since I was using that phone for my camera, and took 600 shots). Also used that same battery connected to my phone WHILE taking photos, touring, etc. Can't go wrong for that low a price. Just make you sure know how much power you are getting PER DOLLAR you spend for the thing - cheap ones are all over, and it does not matter - it's only a battery, after all.
