I will be recording on an 8 track, I'm not particularly 'good at' computers and will be making guitar music.

Please don't tell me to find a real drummer or recommend any computer software! I'm looking for a something with good sound rather than lots of extras. I know Boss and Roland are the best makes. I wish to avoid Zoom like the plague.

Ta.

What you waffling about no computer sofware. Its the only way to go these days. You can get your drums, keyboards and a decent guitarsw sound straight from your P.C to a P.A system. If you can use a real drum machine then a bog - standard VST one is a peice of piss to run. Anyway there is a drum machine out there called "drum kits from hell". It is a software program that you can use on your P.C. It basically sounds like a real drummer..... but theres 1 catch. Its file size is huge. So if you aint got a powerful enough computer to run it. (You need at least 1 gig of ram and a dual core processor ). Go for a another program called "fruity loops". Its also has lots of cool synths and sounds as well as a pretty good drum machine. Failing that. Go for Roland ( really there good for metal) or yamaha. Oh yeah use software. Its cheaper and you get a much, MUCH better result.

The Roland SPD-20 lets you play digital drums like a real drummer. You use drum sticks and the quality is studio pro.

I have it and i use it with a sequencer but i can put all the fills with all the speed that makes a real drummer hate me for having better drum recordings than them. Ask/read about easy payment plan.

The closes thing to a real drum is digital/electronic drums like the ones with pads you play with sticks....2nd would be drum machine, 3rd would be modules and synthesizers, last software drums.

Avoid Zoom and you won't go too far wrong!

Alesis SR16... Cheap, half decent and easy to use. Not to mention damn near indestructible! Had mine for years, it's taken loads of knocks and still works.

Concur with another answer that the ROland SPD 20 is a cracking machine, but you do have to play it a bit like drums...
