I have bought my son an MP3 player for Christmas. I know that on Christmas day he is going to want music on it and want to buy him some sort of credit so that he can do this.

I really have no idea how such things work, can someone explain it to me please.

You do it all through the PC. You should have a USB connection lead with your MP3 player to plug into the PC. Then you transfer music from the pc to your MP3 player (or removeable drive) On certain websites, you can download (share) music for free (winmx, limewire etc). Otherwise you can subscribe to websites at a price for so many downloads!!!

These are the best sites to visit (free downloading) and see

www.limewire.com

www.bearshare.com

You could also just copy music from a CD if you wanted (but you would need to convert them using software such as 'itunes').

If you have an MP3 player which is not an iPod, go to the website of Woolworths or Tesco, these have sections where you download music to the hard drive of your computer, then put on the MP3 player.

If you've got an iPod, iTunes (downloadable from Apple website) is your best bet.

A lot of people recommend file sharing sites, but I would steer clear; they are of dubious legal status, and you must have your own files to share.

---***mp3 players have a USB connector which goes into his computer to download the songs from it.

(it looks like a little rectangle that would go into either the front or back of his computer tower)

When he gets this, he will probably have a disc (cd) with it to have a program set up in his computer, this is easy to do, just follow instructions.

my mp3 player is a Sony it dosent have a usb "cable" so some come with it and some dont, .. you can attach the actual mp3 player to the tower of his computer (with the rectangle thing)

you dont have to pay for the songs like you have to with an ipod. thats whats good about mp3 players! :oP***---

Dont worry! :o)

There are places, like walmart (which is the cheapest) where you can buy cards that are credits towards song.

Usually by the registers. ;) Or you can surf to itunes.com and see how to do a credit there. That is all online no cards needed.

No offense to the following answer, but Limewire is a solution but illegal. Use caution when downloading copyrighted music.

You can buy itunes gift cards, available and any type of entertainment store (best buy, circuit city, walmart) Usually near the cash register. Or go to itunes.com

I get my music from limewire.com

there are a lot of different sites now that you can download or pay for to join and download music.

Don't buy a thing. Get on to a broadband computer and fileshare. It will cost you nothing. Limewire is the one I use most. I will never pay for music again. It's good for the music industry too, because it makes bands go out and tour for revenue.

try www.itunes.com. you can download thousands of songs from there. I have never used it personally but there will be a help section no doubt to guide you.

Use iTunes. As easy as stealing, almost as cheap.
