I am copying iTune music into USB flash drive. I have ALL the original music CD which I ripped them into my iTunes.

As I copied the songs fro my "play list" most songs "kind" showing MPEG-4, while few other are showing as MP3.

iTunes defaults to creating AAC (or mpeg-4) music files. It can also create other formats, including MP3. They are both ways to compress music to take up less hard drive space. An iPod can play either of those types, plus a few others. At the same bit rate, an AAC file will usually sound better than a MP3 file. Think of AAC as the successor to MP3.

They are both the same. The people who think the MPEG is just for video are mistaken. MPEG 1 (VCD), MPEG2 (DVD) , MPEG3 (old HDTV standard), and MPEG 4 (low bitrate encoding) are video standards. MP3 is actually MPEG 1 layer 3, that is its is the standard for compressing sound as used in the MPEG 1 video standard. MPEG layer 3 has just been reduced in common usuage to MP3.
