Restore ipod touch to a earlier firmware?

I have an ipod touch 2g mc version ... and im trying to restore it to an earlier firmware so i can jailbreak it.... i dont have any firmware on my pc but i downloaded some and when i try to restore it with that firmware an unknown error occurs every time it tries to verify with apple, anyone know how to get around or fix this

You can go to http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and choose your device/firmware. (Be sure to select your device and desired firmware

When you are done, go into itunes and hold down the shift button and choose the firmware file you just downloaded.

considering the fact that's the latest firmware it would take sometime so which you will get a jailbreak which might provide help to downgrade it ! with out the jailbreak you count selection downgrade it considering the fact that apples would not enable that as quickly as you replace to a extra moderen firmware

I'm having the same problem. Searched everywhere and nothing. You can't install older firmware unless it's been signed by apple. So if you find a solution to this, please let me know! Before I throw my ipod out the window lol.
