1. I used to be able to convert avi to mp4 and transfer it to the iPod but that doesn't work anymore. How do I fix this?

2. Also, All the songs on iTunes now have a grey exclamation mark and the songs now say, "The song _____ could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" (This may be because I moved most my music to an external hard drive)

The songs on the iPod will play but won't play in iTunes.

Should I just delete everything on the mp3 player and add everything all over? This will take forever as I had to add album artwork for most of he albums.

------------------------

The biggest problem is not being able to add MP4 files like I used to be able to.

1. I dont know why your video method worked before but doesnt work now. But try using Videora (google it)

2. If you moved your music then itunes wont find it to play it. If I were you Id move it all back to where it was before. Then export through itunes so it knows where it is.

Or you can do it all the hard way.

Number two is easy, your itunes library is synce to the files on your hard drive itunes doesnt really keep a seperate copy. So when you moved the files off your harddrive, itunes lost that link and so it can no longer play the music. You'll need to simple put them back. If you put them back in the originaal file as they were the files in itunes will automatically re-sync and they will work just fine. Number one could several things, when i run into this it as always been because the video weren't in the correct codec of mp4. (Codec refers to the different variations of a format) The new ipod classic will play h264 which is a hidef codec or mp4. However, some video files say mp4 but they have a h264 codec and sometimes won't play on the classic. There are other mp4 codecs that the classic won't play. The ipod w/video (not classic) will NOT play the h264 codec. The songs on your ipod will play because they are copied to your ipod and itunes runs off the PC HD and sense you moved them it lost its link to the files.

You DO NOT need to re-download everything onto the ipod!Just return the files back to your HD and itunes will run fine. The file format situation is a matter of conversion. Try re-converting the files to just mp4 with an mp4 codec, it you can.

quantity 2 is easy, your itunes library is synce to the archives on your puzzling tension itunes doesnt rather save a seperate reproduction. So once you moved the archives off your hard drive, itunes lost that link and so it may now no longer play the music. you will would desire to undemanding placed them back. in case you place them back interior the originaal record as they have been the archives in itunes will right now re-sync and that they are going to artwork merely high quality. quantity it is undemanding to various issues, as quickly as I run into this it as constantly been because of the fact the video weren't interior the main appropriate codec of mp4. (Codec refers back to the various transformations of a format) the recent ipod classic will play h264 that's a hidef codec or mp4. even if, some video archives say mp4 yet they have a h264 codec and each so often won't play on the classic. There are different mp4 formats that the classic won't play. The ipod w/video (no longer classic) won't play the h264 codec. The songs on your ipod will play because of the fact they're copied on your ipod and itunes runs off the laptop HD and sense you moved them it lost its link to the archives. you do no longer would desire to re-acquire each little thing onto the ipod!merely return the archives back on your HD and itunes will run high quality. The record format difficulty is an argument of conversion. attempt re-changing the archives to easily mp4 with an mp4 codec, it you could.
