Can someone "dumb it down" for me? I'm not good with electronics!

I have an 8GB iPod Touch, and the firmware takes up 1GB (it happens with all iPods and iPhones so it loses a bit of space).
I have 500 songs on my iPod, and it takes up a little more than 3GB, so I can only say 800+ high-quality songs with a length between 3 and 6 minutes.
It always depends on file size though, which is determined by file quality. If you have a high-quality track, then it'll be around 10-20 MB, but if it's low-quality (which some deem insufficient), it'll only be around 3-5 MB.

8 gigabytes = 8,000 megabytes
and each 4 minute song is like 4-5megabytes
so 8gb = like 1,600 songs that are 5mb's in size
if song files are larger or smaller than that then it varies...hope this cleared things up...

You could fit 2000 but they just wouldn't be that high of quality. It asks you when you sync if you want to convert your songs to 128 kbps so you can save space.

it really depends. Some songs are like 4mb and some are over 20mb. it varies greatly

probably about 1500, they say 2000, but they're lying.
