If you are in the United States I think it's illegal to share copyrighted music online.

Other places it isn't. Here we pay a "tax" on recordable media which goes to artists of copyrighted music so we can download things free legally.

Downloading ANY music unless it is a promotion (like Free Song of the Day or on an artists website) or what-not for free is illegal. It doesn't matter where you get it. If you do not pay for it then how can the artist and the people who took the effort to make it get any of the royalties? Just go to iTunes or Amazon music and pay the $1.29 or 99 cents or whatever! :)

If the owner of the music -- usually, the band which made it -- put it there available for free, then it's not illegal.

If some random person copied a CD and started giving it away, that's illegal.

Generally, most bands don't give away their music for free, unless they're unknowns trying to get exposure. So you can pretty well assume that if you've heard the song on the radio, if you got it for free on your computer, that it's pirated and illegal.

Yes, because it's against the law to download songs that are not paid for, noone gives them out for free anymore, like back in the old days.

If you can buy the song in a shop or off itunes, and you're downloading it for free, then yea it's most likley illigal to download from said site.

Yes. It is illegal. Very illegal. I don't need to look it up. It's common knowledge to everyone in the world, except you.

No, it is not illegal, its fun and law is ridiculous. You should however, be very weary of viruses tagging along with your downloads.
