With Windows Media Player, some video files play no sound....?

...How do I get the correct Codec to fix this probem?
I did download VLC and, sure enough, the worked using that program. However, I didn't like that program so if anyone can help me to fix the problem with WMP that would be awesome! Again, the only problem is that there is no sound.

maybe you can use VLC (by the way, I find WMP really obnoxious and I always use VLC...) to get info about the file and to understand which codec is in use.



Once you know the name it would be easier.

From there you can also visit the help/support pages and the download page

from which you can try to download the last codecs.

Codec issue



If only some of the movies you're playing do not get sound it's likely you have a codec issue. A movie may be created to utilize a certain codec to allow the file to be smaller and more portable. However, in order for the movie file to be played in the media player it must also have the codec installed.



If the location of where you downloaded the file does not contain a link to the download for the codec we suggest you view our codec dictionary definition for additional information and links to codec downloads.



Check volume settings



Often no sound in the Microsoft Windows Media Player is corrected by adjusting the volume controls at the bottom of the window. Moving the slider from the left to the right will turn up the volume, if all the way to the left the volume is turned all the way down.



Make sure not muted



In addition to the volume slider, make sure the sound icon is not pressed in. This button is the mute button and will mute the sound.



Make sure the Equalizer is balanced



If the equalizer is all turned down you may experience sound related issues. To check this setting, click View, Enhancements, Graphic Equalizer. Once the Graphic Equalizer is displayed, make sure all settings are at least mid way.



Sound settings



Verify your sound settings are correct. When other software programs are installed it's possible for the programs to incorrectly adjust your sound settings causing issues with your sound. Update / Reinstall the Windows Media Player



If you continue to experience issues, you may want to consider reinstalling and/or updating the Windows Media player on your computer. You can find the latest Windows Media player on your computer.

VLC is the only software that can play any format of video or audio files even if they are incomplete downloaded .

WMP can play only the perfect files and the video quality is also not good like VLC's bcoz it takes more RAM & processor's capacity just for lookng good(the player, not video).

The VLC's user interface may not make you feel good but it gives high performance than any other player.
