Hi Hafwen! I saw your question in my email and thought I'd share my experiences. I have never bought a musical instrument on Ebay, but I have bought many, many things on the site, and some of them have been expensive and real "gambles." I was at first very skeptical of the site and was nervous about buying expensive products, but believe it or not, I have never been disappointed. I've gotten rare books that turned out to be fully genuine (I took them to an expert), coins from ancient Greece and Rome and medieval Europe, and vintage designer clothes. My main worry with instruments is that the sellers probably won't have sold much (not compared to the clothing sellers), and it would be difficult to judge how reliable they are without a lot of feedback. As a general rule, the seller has to be very detailed in the item description. When you look at the clothing sellers, they tell you everything- whether or not the clothes are from a smoke-free home and about any microscopic tears on it. I'd expect the same from an instrument seller- extremely precise descriptions, on the level you'd expect from a true instrument seller. If the seller doesn't sound very knowledgeable I'd be wary Keeping these rules in mind, I'd think you should go for it. And FYI, the price being "too low" is no indication that it's unreliablel. It's ebay- that's how it works. (For instance, I've gotten 75$ cashmere sweaters for 2$ plus shipping, and yes, they were the real thing). I think it's really the detail in the product description that you need to use to make your decision
