How many hours & minutes of MP3 music can I fill up a CD-R with?

I'm ignorant about MP3s. I hear it's a compressed music file. If so, I wonder how many songs I can transfer to a CD- R? 50?
100? 200? I have no idea!
All I know is once I burn a song on a CD-R, IT'S DONE! Even just one song. When the CD-R is closed, that's it. I can't open it and add more songs! (Unless I use a CD-RW.) Is this correct?

I'll go in reverse order:

You are correct, CD-Rs are permanent recordings. Once you have "locked" the disc (put a datafile on the end that says, "This disc is complete) it cannot be modified further.



CD-RWs can be modified and have files deleted or added, but only up to (if I recall correctly, it's been a while since I've thought about it) 1000 times. That's probably more than you'll ever need, so think of them as always fluid.



The average MP3 is between 4 and 6 megabytes in size. CDs hold 650 megabytes of data, so you can fit between 100 and 150 MP3s on your average CD. An 80-minute CD can hold 700 megabytes, so between 125 and 200 songs.

For a standard 700MB CD-R you can put in approximately 155-170 MP3s. That's with approximately 3:30minute 4.5MB files on a closed CD.

That'll be somewhere around 10 hours of music.

Also if you don't choose to close the CD-R, you can add files later depending on their size to the disc. To enable or disable this there will be a checkbox called Multisession. If you create a multisession disc you can burn a little here and a little there and fill up the disc gradually.

I prefer Nero 6 or 7 for burning, if you're a novice the express version gives you all the features at each burn.

u can write upto 150-200 songs...in cd-r u have an option while writing...instead of burning them to cds..u can just select the songs u want and right click them and go to send to option...there click on cd-rw..then the songs are copied to temporary folder..now close the window and go to my computer and to the cd drive..now in the left side options click on write these files to the cd..the advantage of this writing is that later on if u want to add more songs into it...u can follow the same procedure..but there should be space left..however deleting is not possible unless it is a cd-rw disc...hope this helps...

about 150-175 mp3's

if you make a "data" cd that burns the songs as mp3 then you can ADD files to that same cd, just cant re-write over them unless u have a cd-rw.

It depeneds on your software,, I managed to burn up to 200 mp3 in a cd.. Besides look at the storage capacity of your cd-r's



mine have 700mb.

you can put 80mins (or 700mbs) the number that you can get on 1 cd (as a mp3) depends on the length of the songs



i'd say 200 mp3s depending on length)

note music burned as mp3 wont play in most cd players they have to be in .cda format in that format you can get 20-25 depending on length



note i use NTI burning software it tells you where the disk if full (has a bar on the bottom to show you get it here

I have about 170 on one disc. Yes once closed i'ts closed and write it as a data disc.
