Similar situation happened last year, my iPod touch crashed and my only computer has been completely fried for months. I just went over to a fiend's house and used her computer to restore my iPod.

Just find another computer with iTunes, I know some public libraries have it, and do it there. I'm sure her friends are iPod owners aswell, alot of other people have iTunes ^^

If she purchased her music thru iTunes, her purchases are safe, Apple keeps a record of all your transactions, using her Apple ID, she can transfer all of her purchases to a new computer. All she would have to do is, sign-in, open her account info, go to purchases and download her purchases to the new computer.

As for her iPod being locked, theres not really much she can do unless she remembers the passcode/password. I suggest that you ask her to try and think back to when she locked it, what she was doing, what was going on, what she was thinking about at the time she inputted the passcode/password, this may trigger her memory. Thee only other way to bypass a passcode/password, is to do a jailbreak and I don't think you want to do that, it will void any warranty on her iPod if there is one. If & when you get the iPod unlocked, in the future some good safe passcode/passwords would be, the last 4 digits of her social security number, the last 4 digits of her or your phone number, the month & day or the year she was born, if you have a 4 digit address that would be a good one too.

This support document also provides additional information on locking and unlocking the iPod. According to Apple, if you have forgotten the code, you can unlock the iPod by doing the following:

Connect your iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open itunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked.

If you can't unlock iPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. After wards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod.

If you want to change the primary computer that your iPod is associated with, do this:

1. Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.

2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer.

3. Open itunes and synchronize.

Apple also notes that company "representatives cannot unlock an iPod if you forget your combination. If you can't unlock your iPod and you don't have access to the primary computer, your only option is to restore the iPod, which will erase all music and data."

the same thing happened to my friend so the only way was to re store it

The best way is to download Ccleaner here http://bitly.com/UrALrK

Or you can go on Windows operating system locate the command prompt and go there to do the following:

Create a Recovery file of system and date it today.

Then begin by;

delete the 'Temp' folders..they have hidden subfolders so you need to set the attributes in order to bypass this. For each subfolder delete all cookies and rubbish left behnd after install-uninstalled programs. Do a 'dir' command to check your progress. Make sure the 'Temp' file is empty.

goto c:\windows\prefetch and delete everything in there..no exceptions

goto c:\windows folder and delete all the '$' files that have been installed by updates. They can all be succesfully deleted and just take up disk space.

Locate the Internet Temporary Files..Check to see how high the saving level is..some have it set at 30 days..but that stores faaaar tooo much data..though it slows down the system overal. Keep this to a minimum..suggest 2 or 5 at most.

Delete all 'cookies' all those you don't need.

Locate the windows directory and go through the folders you know and those you don't need. Check this once a week at least. Some programs will install under XP as NT and older systems where there is no check of systems weight.

Check to see that system files have not changed since last booting. Things like .ini files or .bat are important items.

Check for 'Hidden Directories' all over the disk...do this at the command prompt:

dir *.* /ah wil show these hidden directories

Check the 'dir' command for all parameters

Lol restart computer? Ahahaha put it in dfu mode..... Turn off..... Then hold power for three seconds.... Then home and power (without letting go) for 10 sec or so then let go of power and continue to hold until connect to iTunes pops up.... That's all! Connect it to iTunes and restore it.... Btw make sure everythings backed up before doing this..... Also you can connect to any computer to restore it.... And connect to main comp later......

I also recommend jailbreaking it..... You can download a system app that prevent locking up your phone....
