I am at my wits end with this thing! I have had my i pod classic (120 GB) for about a year or so. I only sent it for service once, and got a new one. It's been able to sync and run fine before on my old computer, which was a windows XP. The computer then crashed and i got a new one with windows 7 this october. Since then I've been getting songs for my new i tunes library.
Once I was finished, I went to sync it, but it said "ipod ___ ipod cannot be synced. Required folder not found.
I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING!!
I have un-installed and re- installed itunes, restarted my computer, and even got rid of all the songs that didn't play on my itunes out, so there is nothing wrong with the songs. But I still can't sync it! Every time I plug it in, it offers to scan my ipod, and my itunes freezes to I can't do anything until Iunplugg it and the message appears. That, and the computer recognizes it, but not i tunes!
I have had it with this problem, and I have worked for hours trying to find asolutionn, but nothing works! Please help me! I'm about to shoot my computer!

Try the following:

If you create a new user on your computer, does iTunes stop responding when you connect the iPod or iPhone when logged in to a new user? Please make sure you logout of the original user instead of switching users.

If it is fine in the new user, try creating a new library in the original user account on your computer.

How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one

This explains how to use iTunes 7.0 or later to choose a new or different iTunes Library. This can be use to verify or isolate issues, or just if you want to easily choose different libraries.

Steps to create or choose a different iTunes Library file

1. If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.

2. If you are using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu and choose All

Programs > iTunes > iTunes.

3. If you are using the Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.

4. You should see & follow the 2 screens "choose library"

Additional information

If you do not see one of the screens, then you did not hold the correct key at the correct time. You may want to try again. Note that if you pinned iTunes to the Start menu programs, and open it that way, it may not work.

Rebuilt. Switch back to your original library following the steps in the above link, and then try this:

Re-create your iTunes library and playlists

Re-creating the iTunes Library file

1. Quit iTunes.

2. Locate your iTunes folder.

3. Open your iTunes folder.

4. Drag the iTunes Music Library.xml to the Desktop

5. Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Trash:

6. Open iTunes.

Important: Do not add any content into iTunes at this point.

7. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.

8. Navigate to the iTunes Music Library.xml file on the Desktop.

Mac users: Click Choose.

Windows users: Click Open.

After re-creating your library, any devices that you sync with iTunes (Apple TV, iPod, iPhone) will see your iTunes library as a new library and will completely resync.

I know you don't want to do this again, but you've got a problem with the installation or the download so you need to do it again. First, get help from Apple. By the time you get a reply, maybe you'll have it up and running. If not, you've already done the steps they'll tell you to do so you're that much ahead of the game.

First temporarily disable your firewall then download it from Apple.com/iTunes/download. Make sure there is a check in the Quicktime box and in the two user input boxes, choose Run, not Save. Then, be patient. For a time there won't be anything on your screen and it's easy to mistakenly assume that it's completed. When it tells you it's done, re-enable your firewall and restart your computer. Then try it. If you still have the problem, be sure to let Apple know what you've tried. Again, patience is a virtue here. They will figure it out but you just have to follow their lead.

BTW, I hope you're not downloading and installing with the iPod connected.
