To get songs into iTunes from WMP they have to be non-protected WMA format ot MP3 format so iTunes can convert them.
In iTunes did you try File>Add file to library and selecting the location of your WMP songs? This invokes the file copier and re-formatter and gives warning messages for those songs it can't convert.

No, copying and pasting won't do. In fact, iPods only work with iTunes (Provided it's not jailbroken) and not Windows Media Player. iTunes playlists and and Windows Media Player playlists are 2 different files, just like the file formats they can play. (Like Windows Media Player cannot play .m4a and mp4 files but iTunes can; iTunes cannot player .wma files but Windows Media Player can). Bear this in mind, you cannot use both Apple and Microsoft applications for the same purpose and for the same file format.

iTunes and WMP use different playlist formats. They aren't compatible.
