USB connection maybe? I've seen the one from Phillips that can connect to a PC, but nothing for connecting to an MP3 player. Is there any better way than using an FM transmitter?

Another way to accomplish this is via the headphone jack. Find a boombox with an AUX in (stereo or left/right) and grab a suitable cable. I routinely go 1/8" into the headphone jack on the source device (CD player or MP3 player) into a boombox/stereo/car with left/right RCA connections. Radio Shack sells this cable pre-made (no converters/connectors needed).

jvc brand has a boombox available that has a usb port
also there are devices out htere that allow you to transmit your music via fm radio station. it plugs into your device via the headphone jack and then you tune it to a station that is just static i use this device in my car all the time for my laptop and my mp3

Also the very inexpensive CD to cassette adaptors that radio shack sells work very well. Just plug it into your MP3 players headphone jack and you're good to go.
