It depends on the bitrate (quality) you select for your songs. The higher the bitrate, the fewer the songs. I have a Philips 1Gb Mp3 player and I can get 240 songs on mine. Trust me, thats more than enough for anybody. My bitrate is set at 196 kb/s.

You can change the bitrate by going into Windows Media Player, clicking on tools, then options, then burn, then there will be a slider you can set the bitrate to. Just click on apply to set it, then you're away.

It will alway be different, depending on the size of the tracks, and also the quality of the bitrate, 160bps (a lot of mp3's are 128 is a standard C.D quality, and at that quality its roughly 1mb per minute of music. so 1000 minutes of music @ 3:00 average track length, then you'll get 333 tracks and so on....

But other types, like Sonys Atrac compress the music into different sizes to Mp3 (I think smaller) so if its Sony it could fit more acutal music on it, however it would still be the same size memory....

It depends on the compression size you are using, but the average 256kbps compression will be about 1 mb per minute of music, meaning based on an average of 4 minutes per song you can hold about 250 songs. It'll hold more or less depending on the compression though.

i asked the same question a few days ago and i got a list of answers varying from 190 to 500 songs held. i was told that if you rip the songs from media player then you can fit more songs on there.

While it depends what size and how long, assuming that each song is 4 minutes and the same size, 250.

Well it depends on the size of the file if for example each song was 4mb then you can fit about 256 songs on it. Hope this helps

they say 240 etc, but you only end up having room for around 160-170, they base it on a song being 4 mins 128 kbps etc, but 128 kbps is crap quality, so it ends up being less, you cannot give an exact amount because most music you download will end up being different bit rates, track length, file sizes etc. 170's about the amount that fit on my shuffle. plus you don't achually get a whole gigabyte more like 960mb

Thousands man I don't know how much but more than 250, thousands. Someone else will know the exact figure.
