Okay so after looking at about 147637642754 videos on youtube on how to jailbreak my iPod (which is on 4.2.1 firmware) I gave it a go using redsn0w 0.9.6b4 and I also tryed redsn0w 0.9.6b6. With both of these I ran them in Windows XP Serive Pack 2 compatibility mode and ran as admin but none of them worked. This seems to be because when it starts actually jailbreaking my iPod it just disconnects itself randomly. This usually happens when it says it's installing limera1n. Sometimes it will finish installing and say "waiting for reboot" but nothing will happen. I have set up everything right on redsn0w (e.g. correct firmware, put it in DFU mode correctly etc.) and it just refuses to work. Could someone out there lend me a hand on how to fix this. Thanks in advance.

You CAN NOT jailbreak iOS 4.2 unless you stored your SHSH bloob before upgrading the iOS.

Dear friend, as we know, the iPod touch is a beautiful device, but unfortunately Apple restricted a lot of it's potential by locking the firmware. The only way to unlock the full potential of your iPod and install custom applications, ringtones, etc, is to jailbreak iPod touch so as to remove Apple's firmware restrictions. This is 100% safe, and there is no risk of damaging your iPod if you do it properly.

Find a mac and use pwnagetool to make yourself a custom firmware using this guide

OR you can keep trying redsn0w

try using redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 5 that might work since you used 4 and 6
